About
Denis Sokolov is a senior software engineer and team lead based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with more than 15 years of experience building and shipping complete products. He works mostly on the backend, but across the full stack: architecture, APIs, data modelling, infrastructure and the user-facing apps on top.
What he does now
- Swap (since February 2025): Senior Software Engineer and Team Lead on the Agentic Storefront, a conversational shopping assistant where an LLM helps people search for clothing, get recommendations and buy. He owns the system architecture around the agent — API design, data modelling and storage, the agent loop, tools, memory and chat history — leads a team of senior engineers, and drives the team’s adoption of coding agents.
- audiotour.io (since May 2023): technical co-founder. He is the lead engineer of the product, an AI audio-guide app for travellers, and owns the technical direction and the hardest engineering work. He built every earlier generation of the app alone, including Keeny, which reached 2,000+ users. In 2026 the team rebuilt it from scratch as a web app and a native iOS app, with Android in development. Co-founder Dmitry Frolov leads product and design and also builds frontend features for the web and mobile apps.
Earlier
Before Swap he spent almost seven years at JetBrains (2017–2024), first in St. Petersburg and then in Amsterdam. Earlier roles include Appulate, the startups Snacky and Corkly (where he grew from frontend developer to engineering manager), FunCorp and moedelo.org. He holds a Master’s degree in Engineering with honours from Penza State Technical University and completed Y Combinator’s Startup School in 2023.
Expertise
AI agents and agent tooling, LLM applications, software architecture, systems design, technical leadership and full-stack development, mainly with TypeScript and Node.js.
